Emily is one half of Alder James Architecture based in Laguna Beach, CA. Founded with her husband, Matt, together they design luxury residential homes, boutique commercial properties, retail and entertainment space. Matt is the Principal Architect and Emily is the Interior Designer.

Emily is a wife and mother of three, living in her hometown of Laguna Beach, CA. She spends her days volunteering in her children’s schools and sports, designing with her husband, cooking up a storm, or swimming in the ocean. She values her families time at the beach, watching her family surf, working as an activist and engaging in politics. Her passion is in designing and creating unique spaces with beautiful details with a clean, bohemian, coastal aesthetic. Collecting and curating a lifestyle inspired by history, culture, beauty, and function.
About ALDER JAMES | Founded in 2018 by husband and wife Matthew James Gummow and Emily Alder Rolfing, Alder James grew out of a desire to improve our communities through our own unique take on place-making. From the very beginning, we’ve been fortunate to partner with incredible clients on life-changing projects.
